Sathanur is a town situated in the Tiruvannamalai District of Tamil Nadu. It is located at 30 km from Tiruvannamalai and 208 km from the capital city, Chennai.
Sathanur Dam
Sathanur Dam is a major dam with a capacity of 7,321,000,000 cu ft. The dam is constructed across Pennaiyar River in Thandarampet Taluk among the Chennakesava Hills during the year 1958. The main purpose of constructing the dam was for irrigation purpose. A small hydel power plant is also installed there for power generation to the state of Tamil Nadu.

The Sathanur Dam has been developed to a great extent recently to attract more visitors with beautiful lawn, gardens, swimming pool and alluring sculptures. There is also children’s park within the premises of the dam to keep the children entertained. The dam and its surroundings offer a picturesque environment for many photographers and film makers.
Aquariums
Fish grotto and crocodile farms are also maintained there to enlighten the visitors about fish culture and life of crocodile. The crocodile farm was built in early 1977 and is maintained by the Forest Department. The farm is located at the Southeast corner of Sathanur dam and is a habitat for nearly 400 crocodiles.
